Living in Rhode Island

Despite being the smallest state in the US, Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State thanks to its 400 miles of coastline–the state is actually 3% larger at low tide!

About Us

The program’s Core Faculty and Division of Medicine-Pediatrics provide clinical care in all of our hospitals and primary care clinic, and advise and mentor our residents.

Why Brown Med-Peds?

We are recruiting committed, compassionate, and curious residents to care for our diverse patient community, to develop excellent clinical skills, and to explore the unlimited potential of combined Med-Peds training.

Med-Peds has been a part of the Brown residency programs for more than 20 years, building on two strong categorical programs.  The program’s Core Faculty and Division of Medicine-Pediatrics provide clinical care in all of our hospitals and primary care clinic, and advise and mentor our residents.

Our weekly Med-Peds Forum brings residents and faculty together for sessions on clinical cases, scholarship, advocacy, teaching opportunities, and Med-Peds guest speakers.

Residents are the primary physicians for their patient panel at our continuity site, the Medicine-Pediatrics Primary Care Center. Our site has served the Providence community for over 20 years caring for children, adults, and families. It serves as a NCQA-Level III Patient-Centered Medical Home for our patients.

We emphasize individual development, supporting residents in identifying and furthering their passions. Certificate tracks offered include Global Health, International Child Health, Clinician Educator, Women’s Health, Research, and Arts & Medicine.

Residents and faculty are critical to shaping the program, and are recruited to teaching and leadership roles in the hospitals, medical school, local, and national organizations. Check out the Faculty, Residents, and Alumni pages to see the full breadth of Med-Peds potential realized!

Our Core Values

Our core mission is to offer an academically-oriented training program that prepares exceptional physicians to provide high quality individual care and improve the health status of populations. The program residents and faculty, Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, and Brown University Health strive to:

  • Provide for collaborative training of highly-skilled clinicians in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics prepared to care for children and adults, individuals and families, while maintaining the depth of training and expertise in each field.
  • Create an environment supporting academic scholarship and advocacy efforts that reflect the unique Med-Peds perspective on care for patients across the lifespan.
  • Prepare residents for leadership roles as educators and academic clinicians in general and sub-specialty disciplines of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics through mentorship, teaching experiences, and opportunities for leadership roles in institutional, community, local, state, and national programs.
